Anna Stephens headed to Wynard Hall this weekend to take on the Gung Ho 5k inflatable race! A bit of fun as competitors clamber across a number of obstacles over the 3.1mile course!
Another race to take place on Good Friday were the aforementioned Relays. Darlington Harrier ladies had a strong team entered in Catherine Roberts, Natalie Curgenven and Bernadette Caygill. Running against the super powers of North East running in Gateshead and Morpeth, the ladies finished in an impressive 3rd place. Impressive ladies!
Last week we told you that further down the A1 some Harriers opted for the Dishforth Dash 10k. Results for this fast one have now been released and amongst the results last week there was PB’s for Kim Reeve, Lucy Applegarth, Julian Waller and Jen and Andy Harrison. Excellent running, looks like one to try
Although we covered the South Park 20 race in last week’s report I wanted to give Paul Allan a huge shout out, not just for his effort last week where he smashed his 20 mile best as he romped to a 1:58 but for his work ethic in training. Paul, like many others at the
After a couple of weeks waiting for the Hardmoors results these have been finally released. On a day with crazy weather and stoppages for many of the runners, three Harriers finished the Hardmoors 55 in really excellent timescales. Tremendous achievement from you all. 41 Heather Ford 11:32:28 69 Matt Capsey 12:21:50 138 Mark Milner 13:49:13
Last Sunday a number of runners opted for the Dark Skies of Northumberland to the bright skies of Darlington as runners took on the Dark Skies Run at Kielder Water and Forest Park. A beautiful run for the runners over 14miles around a stunning backdrop. Barry Foster was first home for the club, but well
We had three runners at the local 5km race last Sunday morning at Ropner Park. The flat and fast parkrun route around the local park is quite scenic and forms part of the Tees Trail Winter 5k series although this has only a very small stretch of grass at the end of the course. Bernadette
Easter saw the return of Elswick Harriers’ ever popular event, the ‘Good Friday Road Relays’ held at Lemington on, as you would expect, Good Friday. The main relay events are for the Seniors only, but they are preceded by a series of individual junior events; combined boys and girls races for each of the Under
Harriers team dominated the Movathon treadmill challenge which sees runners taking a minimum of 30 minute slot and working as hard as possible to increase the number of moves achieved. Moves are calculated not just by speed but by effort, so a higher gradient on the treadmill would increase the number of moves versus someone
On a beautiful spring morning at South Park a large number of Harriers came along to support one of our club races of the season, the South Park 20. I can’t understate this enough but the efforts that go into these events by the people setting up, completing registrations, timekeeping, marshalling or at the water
Junior Harrier, Libby Hammond was on top form again last weekend. Since joining DHAC, she’s been a regular competitor at Track & Field, and even took part in some of the NYSD cross country events recently. She’s also a fan of the Sunday morning junior park runs, in particular the one at Hardwick Park, Sedgefield.
Michael Robson was in the big smoke this weekend taking on the all new landmarks of London half marathon which takes runners through Westminster and the City. The run takes in sites such as Big Ben and Dick Whittington’s house…think that was the right combination! Michael had a solid run finishing 824th in 1:42:39. Well
Caroline Gibson was in action this Saturday at the Leeds to Liverpool Canal Canter, an enjoyable half marathon which takes runners out and back along the scenic tow path and idea for PB hunters. Caroline Gibson was the only Harrier on show finishing the run in 2:26:50 for a new personal best. Well done Caroline.
Martin McGregor and Den Dale were our only two competitors at the Hornblower Duathlon in Ripon. Martin sporting…..well hair! Finished in 1:55:53 two places and twenty three seconds ahead of Den Dale. These run-bike-run events are getting all the more popular these days! Well done gentleman, great work
Sam Richardson was in action this weekend at the Buttermere 10 Mile trail race. Based in the beautiful Buttermere valley set amidst a dramatic landscape of high fells, this is an incredible trail route around the shores of Buttermere & Crummock Water…clearly someone forget to mention to Sam that you didn’t actually have to get
Further down the A1 some Harriers opted for the Dishforth Dash 10k. For those that haven’t been to Dishforth it sits just outside Ripon and is pancake flat in fact it makes the Mermaid look hilly! This new race takes runners around the airfield perimeter with the main runway incorporated on lap two. Results have
On Saturday we had a small number of runners at the rescheduled Lightwater Valley 10k, a race which is good fun taking runners across grass, man made paths and roads. In a low key race Phil Teece finished this one in 7th place but 1st in his age category, youngster Liam Brittle running his first
Saturday was the culmination of a lot of hard work, and what’s been an exceptional cross country season for Junior Harrier, India Pentland. Just a couple of weeks ago she won her first National medal whist representing the North East of England, then after another terrific performance last week finishing 5th in the English Schools
Unfortunately for us, Under 13 endurance maestro, Gabby Hall, will soon be moving clubs. She’s made some good friends at Middlesbrough Mandale and also has school friends who run for the club, so some time soon she will be joining them. There’s no definite date yet, so for now at least, she’ll be wearing the
