You will have seen that our Track will be unavailable to train on as it undergoes a full refurbishment from March 13th. Work has actually already started with the lighting in and around the athletics track. We expect the work to happen over a 12 week period so should be complete by the end of May, if not sooner!

Week 1 our track has been removed, improved lighting at the track has been installed and the death trap long jump cover gone
Week 2, Kerbing is getting done and a new pathway is going in to the hammer/discus area

The Training page on the website will soon be updated to reflect any temporary arrangements, but if you have any questions at all on the sessions below, please speak directly with your coach

We had two of our athletes at the Hardmoors 55 race this weekend, a 55 mile Ultramarathon running from  Guisborough to Helmsley. The 55 mile race takes competitors through the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills so not an easy run by any stretch! Mark Milner completed the course (and not for the first time) in 14 hrs 33mins and 28 seconds for 156th place while Ian Morris called it a day after nearly 9hrs of running (I don’t blame you!). Unfortunately I’ve been unable to find Mark in action but have located Ian. Well done both of you, great efforts.

Amanda Waller and Simon Daniels headed to Sheffield for the tough Half Marathon this weekend, a run which combines a 10km race in the second half of the race and a ‘peaks challenge’ as runners climb up the first 5 miles or so and clocks athletes in the last mile of that climb. This is a tough half marathon but both our runners did great finishing in 1.46.49 and 1.49.05 respectively. Well done both of you!

At the NECAA indoor Pentathlon held at Gateshead College Academy for Sport this weekend we had some of our Track and Fielders in competitive action. We had some excellent results from our club athletes with podium finishes across various age groups. Results below include some athletes who sit outside of the North East and therefore excluded from NECAA medals but competed in the competition.

First and third for Charlotte and Iona
Iona 2nd place in the NEMAA athletes

On Sunday we saw the return of the NYSD road Relays at South Park.

Daniel Callaghan took 1st place in the Boys U11 race, with Bea Wilks replicating that achievement in the girls run. The U13 boys team of Rowan Steel, Donovan Tarn and Finn Pentland-Rice took 1st place while team mates Matthew Foster, Lucas Rogers and James I’anson finished 2nd.

The U13 girls team of Chloe Graham, Evalina Barrass and Isla Massingham just missed out on a podium finish, finishing in 4th place. The U15 boys team of Daniel I’anson, Willhoughby Crossleigh and Owen Ovens also finished in 1st place as did the senior men’s team of Dan Richardson, Chris Fothergill, Dylan Wilson and John Clifford. Some other great performances not mentioned here and all results can be found here
