You will have seen that our Track will be unavailable to train on as it undergoes a full refurbishment from March 13th. Work has actually already started with the lighting in and around the athletics track. We expect the work to happen over a 12 week period so should be complete by the end of May, if not sooner!
The Training page on the website will soon be updated to reflect any temporary arrangements, but if you have any questions at all on the sessions below, please speak directly with your coach

This weekend saw the English Schools Cross Country Championships take place at Wollaton Park, just outside of Nottingham an event which sees the best juniors from around the different counties in England go head to head. Full results have yet to be released but those of you who were chosen to compete at the Championships should be extremely proud of yourselves. Some photos below from our Durham teams but official photos of the day can be found here or actual footage of the days events can be watched here
This weekend also saw the NEMAA British Masters Cross Country take place in Wallsend at the Rising Sun Sports Ground. Ian Barnes, still competing at 88 years and flying the flag for Darlington finishing 1st in the M85 category by nearly 4 minutes. Tremendous as always Ian. Full results can be found here
Also this weekend we had three of our Harriers competing at Kielder in the Trail Outlaw series, dark Skies, Kielder 14. Jade Hutchinson was first of our three home finishing in 2nd place in her category in 2hrs 05 while mum Anne and Iain Girard ran together finishing in 2hrs 44 minutes. Well done all of you, full results can be found here
We had a small number of our senior runners at the Locke Park 20 mile race, a race which sees runners complete 20 laps of the twisty parkrun circuit before finishing in the tennis court once the laps had been completed. The 10 mile event is integrated into the same race with runners having the option to switch to the 10mile event up to 9.9miles. On a bright, warm morning, Paul Gilsenan was first harrier home in 2:09:56 which looks good for a comfortable sub 3hr race at London marathon in 5 weeks time. Jeff Miller and Barry Talman decided to use this event as a 20mile training session running easy for four miles, running six at marathon pace and so on. Both runners crossed the line in 25th and 26th place with Brian ‘backpack’ Thompson completed his run in 3hrs 19.24. Paul Cook checked out of the 20mile race at 9.9miles after the boredom took a grip of his mental wellbeing, to cross the line in 67.42 as part of his preparation for London with Shirley Gibson our only other 10miler finishing in 96:05.
Full results of the 20 can be found here and the 10 can be found here
Mark Tallon was in action this week, this time at the Vittorio Veneto half marathon a route which is an undulating single loop that begins and ends in the centre of the town of Vittorio Veneto which is situated at the foot of the Venetian Prealps, approximately seventy kilometres north of Venice. Mark completed the race in 1:58:12…not bad for a retired 400m runner! Well done. Results for the race can be found here
John Dunne, was competing at the Bilsdale Fell Race this weekend, a race on the Yorkshire Moors that involves 23km over varying terrain with 1300m of ascent and descent. Results haven’t been released yet but pleased to say John completed the course and in one piece! Well done John
