Track Development – Progress in Pictures
You will have seen that our Track will be unavailable to train on as it undergoes a full refurbishment from March 13th. Work has actually already started with the lighting in and around the athletics track. We expect the work to happen over a 12 week period so should be complete by the end of May, if not sooner!
Race Result
Sunday saw an excellent turn out at the Run Sunderland 10km and Half marathon events, two well organised races around the North East’s capital. These events always see a good turnout of numbers and the weekends races were no different. Some excellent results from all the club members on the day, Mark Haymer the first Harrier home in the half breaking 90 minutes for the first time in some style by over a minute.

In the 10km event it was John Clifford who was the first home from club finishing 14th overall and 2nd V50 in 34:48, but once again some great performances from all and a big turn out from the Couch 2 beyond group. Full results for the 10km race can be found here
Steve and Nicky headed south to Halifax to compete at the Bluebell Trail 10 a 10.3 mile multi-terrain race through woodland, canal
towpaths, trails and cobbled streets with the occasional hill……steep ones too! Steven Wilkinson was first home in 52nd position in 93:40 with Nicky Young 161st in 1hr 55:38. Tough course, well done!

Phil Doonan and Catherine Anderson were competing in the heart of Shropshire this weekend at Market Drayton’s 10km race which starts at Grove School playing field, the 10k route taking runners on a tour of the local town. Most of the course is deemed nice and flat, but with a few challenging hills after 8km before taking runners back to the school field. Phil was the first of the two to cross the line in 163rd place in 45:26 with Catherine 51:50 but taking top honours in her age category. Great running by you both.

Another run to take place this weekend was the Wainstones Half marathon (which is actually 16.5miles and over 3500 feet!). Hilary Bevan and Lizzie Hugill pictured here with Rebecca Jones ran the course together, taking in all the scenary and plenty social media posts to finish together in just under 6hrs. Great work!
