Awards & Presentation Night

To cast your vote click here
Unfortunately this year I am unable to attend the presentation evening (a clash with Manchester Marathon weekend), the first I will have missed since joining the club around 10 years ago. Thank you to Andy Harrison who has taken the ingredients that were available and hopefully is cooking up a good night for you all. If you haven’t done so already, cast your votes for the categories which Andy will gather ready for the awards.
Remember you have to be a club member to vote and you can only vote once per category.

- I want to see what discounts are available to me
- I want to read our clubs processes or policies
Race Results
Last Sunday we told you that a number of our club runners turned out at the Baydale Beck 5k race. Results are now out. Colin Taylor was first across the line in a speedy 18:53 with partner Michaela Sowerby first lady and 11th place overall in 23:22. Unfortunately clubs aren’t listed for runners but full results can be found here Well done to all our runners on the day, looked like you all had fun.

Simon Daniels was our only representative at the Cambridge Half marathon this weekend, a large event on this closed road circuit. Simon had a superb run finishing in the top 2000 and achieving a personal best in the process as he crossed the line in 1:39:24. Brilliant running Simon.

Also taking place on Sunday was the final Cross Country event (excluding the road relays on march 27th) at Whitby, a course which is actually lots of fun with plenty ups and downs around the course, if you get the weather that is. Thankfully Sunday was a great day for running albeit a little cold for spectators but an opportunity to head into Whitby for fish and chips post race always helps.
Some impressive results throughout the age groups including the U13 Girls who took top honours on the day, Freya Talman winning the U15 girls race, Marissa Boon finished in a very impressive 2nd place in the senior ladies race as a U17 and the Senior ladies team taking 1st place overall. James Largey who has been impressive all season continued his great form in the senior mens race finishing 3rd.
Results have now been released and can be found here

Prince Harry Lays down his Crown
Harry Prince who has been with the club for 40 years has finally called a day on his running career. Harry who has held every position at the club over the years and was club secretary when the club split and ‘the noisy neighbours’ were formed in the town is now 84 and although still a proud Darlington Harrier decided to call time on his racing. Harry used to run a ladies only section at the club and introduced a Ladies 10km race which was held at Longfield as well as being integral for the clubs move to our current location Eastbourne. Harry will always be a part of the club so no doubt you will see him at events still but for now at least…his trainers have retired. Thank you for everything you have done for the club over the years Harry!

I would like to thank all members and coaches for their help over the years and maybe will meet up with some of them at the Darlington 10K. If you need any help at any time and I can be of assistance would be happy to do so.
Harry Prince
