Unfortunately this year I am unable to attend the presentation evening (a clash with Manchester Marathon weekend), the first I will have missed since joining the club around 10 years ago. Thank you to Andy Harrison who has taken the ingredients that were available and hopefully is cooking up a good night for you all. If you haven’t done so already, cast your votes for the categories which Andy will gather ready for the awards.

Remember you have to be a club member to vote and you can only vote once per category.

How do I?….

Run Safe

Well done to all our Harriers who got involved!!

Race Results

Tori Buckley was in action in Sheffield this weekend this time at the U17 English Athletics Combined Events Indoor Championships. Tori had an excellent championship finishing with 3 personal bests and 3 seasons bests from the 5 events (and one overall point score) so not a bad return at all! Well done Tori, fantastic performances!

India Pentland was our sole competitor at the weekends Podium 5km race in Barrowford. Racing against a mix of Senior and Junior ladies India finished in a fantastic 4th position overall in 17:02. Tremendous running. Full results can be found here

We had a small number of our junior Harriers competing at Loughborough at the final Inter Counties XC on Saturday. The U15 boys finished in 11th position with strong performances from both Sylvan Tarn and Alex Boyer while the U15 girls finished 3rd with superb runs from Zara Jones and Freya Talman making a big contribution to the North East’s bronze medal.

Alex Boyer also part of the North East U15 boys

Sunday saw some of our senior athletes at the Thirsk 10 mile road race, a race which predominately is flat with a two mile dogleg section around 4 miles into the race. This is a great course to run although due to the openness of the circuit it’s a little exposed to the elements and Sunday was no exception with strong winds impacting runners leading up to mile 4, cross winds for two miles followed by a headwind for a mile and a half before some housing offered shelter to the runners back to the Racecourse.

Chris Fothergill stole the show on the day by finishing 17th in his first 10mile race in a super quick 56.16 with better conditions a 54minute 10 mile is on the cards. Paul Cook was next home in 61:18 with Jake Brown running an excellent 62:46 and the young Jeff Miller only 36seconds behind. Jeff was 12th in his V50 race but as he is giving 9 years to some of his competitors when Jeff hits the V60 milestone in a little over 9 months (but who’s counting….) then surely the V60 runners will be concerned by the new kids on the block.

Barry Talman was back in action after a small amount of training finishing in 67:12 ahead of Ian and Pauline Brown who both ran excellent races finishing 71:22 and 72:11 respectively. David Nalder put in a strong run in the V60 race finishing in 78:08 with Shirley Gibson finishing 2nd out of the 5 F70 ladies in 96:23 just ahead of Lesley Miller in 97:42 who continues her comeback to road races after a long term injury kept her out of action.

Meet the Browns! Ian, Jake and Pauline

Another race to take place on Sunday was the Carlisle Half Marathon and we had two of our runners in action. This race has some terrific scenery and starts and finishes at Brunton Park Football Stadium. The course sees runners start from the main straight at the back of the East Stand and run into Rickerby Park before heading to Linstock & Crosby on Eden before turning back on what is an out and back route.

Andrew Bainbridge was first of our two runners home finishing in a new personal best of 1:26:58 finally having an official sub 90 minute effort after the issues at Redcar 2021. Andrew Glencross who competed in the 10km event on the day finished his run in 53:17
