How do I?….

Race Results

After two qualification events Saturday saw some of our athletes competing at the English Schools cross country championships at Hop Farm, Paddock Wood Kent. I think before we get to the results of the day, I think it’s only right that we not just call out the athletes who have either got to the final or didn’t quite make it but the incredible job that our coaches have done with all of our athletes to achieve what they have achieved. Kudos to you all!

Some absolutely superb performances on the day starting with the Junior Girls and Zara Jones who finished in an incredible 12th position on the day and surely must be in contention for athlete of the season after another outstanding performance after finishing 1st at the Northern Schools’ Inter Counties Championships last month in Middlesboro and consecutive 23rd positions at ECCA Saucony English National Championships at Parliament Hill and at the CAU Inter County Championships at Loughborough only a week ago coupled with her performances throughout 2021 on the track. Freya Talman who clears has good genes from her mum Louise (and jeans from dad Barry) also put in an excellent performance finishing 73rd ahead of team mates Savannah Tarn and Charlotte Graves who finished 184th and 220th respectively. All four of you should be exceptionally proud!

Hugo Douglas-Reeves was our only competitor in the Junior Boys race and he more than held his own finishing in 268th place, well done Hugo! Libby Hammond wearing the vest of Cleveland finished 279th place despite losing a shoe early in the race making life extremely difficult for her. This shows the charachter of Libby by pushing through to finish line where others might have called it a day. We had two of our boys in the Intermediate race, Alex Boyer running very strong on the day to finish 118th place with the ever improving Sylvan Tarn 178th only 26 seconds behind Alex. In the senior girls race we had both Marissa Boon and Mia Wetherill who have both had excellent seasons on track and cross country. Marissa was first of our two girls across the line in 115th place with Mia 169th place. All of you should be exceptionally proud of your performances and the work you have put in to get to the final.

A little bit closer to home, Rowan Steel had a great weekend of running first of all breaking 18minutes at Saturday’s Darlington parkrun on a day which was perfect for athletes and then followed up this brilliant run by breaking the junior parkrun record!! Way to go Rowan, keep up the great work and keep listening to your coaches.

The course map

Mark Tallon was the only Harrier at the Vittorio Veneto Half Marathon in Italy today in a  race held in the Province of Treviso in the Veneto region in northern Italy. The route is an undulating single loop that begins and ends in the centre of the town of Vittorio Veneto which is situated at the foot of the Venetian Prealps, approximately seventy kilometres north of Venice. Mark finished the tough half in 1hr 57.16. Good job Mark!
