Race Results
(Section written by our man on scene Andy Harrison) Saturday 26th March was the NECAA Indoor Pentathlon Championships – which has athletes competing in five events across the day (60mH, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump and 60m). We had an excellent turn out for the club with nine athletes competing on the day. And between them they brought home seven medals across.
In a competitive field we had two of our U17 women competing, Tori Buckley and Krista Bissett Brown. Tori finished the day in 8th place in the NECAA competition with a total of 2,713 points (60mH: 9.67s / High Jump: 1.34m / Shot Put: 9.91m / Long Jump: 4.17m / 60m: 8.80s) and Krista finished just a couple of places behind in 10th with a total of 2,380 points (60mH: 10.35s / High Jump: 1.37m / Shot Put: 6.88m / Long Jump: 4.44m / 60m: 8.41s).
Our sole representative in the always high standard U20 Women event was Charlotte Rutter. Charlotte put in some great performances to earn 2nd place and the NECAA silver medal with a total of 3,358 points (60mH: 9.22s / High Jump: 1.52m / Shot Put: 9.92m / Long Jump: 5.08m / 60m: 8.35s).
In the Senior Women event we had two of our multi-talented athletes competing, Iona Richings and Sarah Johnson. Iona led the way finishing in 1st place in the NECAA competition to win the gold medal with a total of 2,498 points (60mH: 10.69s / High Jump: 1.43m / Shot Put: 6.17m / Long Jump: 4.54m / 60m: 8.70s), with Sarah not far behind taking 2nd place in the NECAA competition for the silver medal with a total of 2,377 points (60mH: 10.94s / High Jump: 1.37m / Shot Put: 8.62m / Long Jump: 4.12m / 60m: 8.97s)
In the U15 Boys we had two athletes competing, Hugo Douglas-Reeves and Thomas Hill. They both put in some outstanding performances and finished the day on the top two steps of the podium in the NECAA competition with Hugo taking gold with a total of 1,884 points (60mH: 10.74s / High Jump: 1.40m / Shot Put: 7.74m / Long Jump: 4.59m / 60m: 8.21s) just ahead of Thomas for the silver with a total of 1,766 points (60mH: 11.20s / High Jump: 1.46m / Shot Put: 6.60m / Long Jump: 4.62m / 60m: 8.31s)
Only one Harrier in the U17 Men – Ashton Harrison, put in great performances across the day to earn himself 2nd place and silver medal in the NECAA competition with a total of 2,173 point (60mH: 10.13s / High Jump: 1.52m / Shot Put: 8.58m / Long Jump: 4.95m / 60m: 8.29s)
In the Senior Men event, Andy Harrison was the sole Harrier, and in fact the only athlete eligible for the NECAA competition, so earned himself a 1st place and gold medal (he was 5th in the overall event) with a total of 1,889 points (60mH: 12.75s / High Jump: 1.55m / Shot Put: 8.28m / Long Jump: 5.14m / 60m: 8.11s).
In last week’s report we had two of our young athletes missing from the report (unfortunately there’s no filter of club so we are reliant on word of mouth in the main!) so we wanted to put that right and give our athletes the recognition they deserve. Harry Lyons who was captain alongside Libby Hammond on the day and Izzy Edinboro, both representing Cleveland ran in the Intermediate boys race and junior girls race respectively finishing 317th and 262nd. Well done both of you and apologies for overlooking your performances last week!
Saturday saw two of our athletes at the Hardmoors 55 event. The Hardmoors 55 is a 55 mile Ultramarathon running from Guisborough to Helmsley which takes competitors through the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills. Dave Mckenna was first of our two runners home in 12hrs and 8 seconds for 63rd place with the experienced Mark Milner home in 14hrs 25 mins and 13 seconds. Well done gentleman, incredible display of endurance running. Full results can be found here
At the Primary Schools XC Ollie Curran and Eleanor Gibson were in action amongst a field of 135. Ollie once again had a really strong run finishing 18th in 7.39 in the year 5 boys race with Eleanor 125th in a time of 11.58 in a very large field. Full results can be found here
Sunday saw the final instalment of the Cross Country season….and of course…it’s on path at South Park as the curtain was drawn to a close at the NYSD relays. There was some fantastic performances throughout the groups once again starting off with a dominating display from the U11 boys and two podium places in the girls race. This theme continued as the U13 boys took first and third place in their race and the girls winning their race.
The U15 boys finished 2nd on the day and another strong U15 girls team took first place by over 2 minutes! Senior ladies team finished 3rd and 8th place with the Senior men pretty much matching their performances by finishing 3rd and 9th. with our third mens team 13th from the 16 full teams entered. Great work everyone!
