You will have seen that our Track will be unavailable to train on as it undergoes a full refurbishment from March 13th. Work has actually already started with the lighting in and around the athletics track. We expect the work to happen over a 12 week period so should be complete by the end of May, if not sooner!

The Training page on the website will soon be updated to reflect any temporary arrangements, but if you have any questions at all on the sessions below, please speak directly with your coach

Sarah Tomlinson took the long trip to Tokyo accompanied by husband Dave, to compete in another Major marathon with a view to completing all 6 (London, Chicago, Berlin, Tokyo, Boston and New York). The course itself is mostly flat running from Kanda, Nihombashi, Asakusa, Ryogoku, then through their high-end shopping district Ginza & Hibiya before finishing at Tokyo Station. Sarah completed her run in 4:33.52 and now has 7 weeks to prepare for London! Well done Sarah, great work!

A video of the course can be seen here

We also gad runners at the Saturn RUNS N ROSES event at Durham, a 4.37km lap event where runners can choose their distance with the minimum distance of 5km. The course itself takes participants around a stretch of the River Wear with views of the Cathedral.

Catherine Anderson and Philip Doonan headed to the big smoke this weekend to take part in the London half marathon event, two races (there is a 10km option) that start and finish on the iconic London Stadium’s Island alongside the Olympic Bell. On the day Phil finished 4th V55 in 1:40.50 in the half marathon race with Catherine finishing 2nd V65 in a time of 1:52.30. Full results can be found here

Second claim runner Dawn Richardson was also in action this weekend, competing at the North Lincolnshire Half marathon event with a hope of claiming an England Masters vest for the distance. Dawn didn’t disappoint crossing the line in 1hr 25 for 1st V50. Congratulations Dawn and to John Clifford who was selected to represent England for the Half Marathon.

We also had a handful of Harriers at the Haweswater Half Marathon on Sunday, a course which starts in Bampton Village and follows an out and back course along the shores of Haweswater in a remote and dramatic mountain valley. Sean Craggs was first home of the three home in 1:43:01 ahead of Tony Williams by exactly 7 minutes with Sarah Neve crossing the line in 2hrs 39:10.

At the final NYSD meet at Whitby on Sunday we had some podium place finishes from a number of our runners. Disappointingly we had no senior men athletes competing on the day and only Graham Bell flying the flag in the mens vets race. In the U11 boys race Daniel Callaghan finished 2nd with Sasha Patterson equalling that achievement in the girls race while Finn Pentland-Rice took top spot in the U13’s boys race and supported by james I’anson who was 3rd. In the U15’s boys race Hugo Douglas-Reeves finished 1st while Marissa Boon crossed the line in 2nd place in the ladies senior race. Well done to all of our athletes.
