Last Sunday saw the 5th instalment of the NYSD Cross Country season take place at Richmond, a cross country which is in the main flat but exposed to the elements when the weather is poor. Daniel Callaghan gone things under way in the U11 boys race by finishing 1st with Sasha Patterson also finishing on the podium in the U11 girls race finishing just behind the leading girl. Matthew Foster and James I’anson finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the U13 boys race while Matilda Owens finished 3rd in the girls aged raced. The Darlington U13 girls also claimed 1st place with sister Charlotte finishing 5th and Freya Boon 14th.
In the boys U15 race Owen Ovens finished 3rd with Savannah Tarn equalling that achievement in the U15 girls race. Marissa Boon just finished outside the top 3 in the women’s race (U17 and above) while Michael Harcourt was the highest placed male in the mens race finishing in a very credible 8th place. Graham Bell was also just outside the podium places in the Vets race finishing 4th of the V65’s. Full results can be found here with other performances from our club athletes.

Sunday saw the return of Run Newcastle Valentines 10k race, a race which takes place on and around Newcastle’s Town Moor. This is a flat and fast course and ideal for PB hunters. John Clifford was our only runner on the day, and according to the results took the win finishing in a time of 34:34. John states he was second but until the results show different…..he won! Superb running either way John!

Although parkrun isn’t something we cover weekly as it’s a run rather than a race, from time to time it’s worth calling out a few achievements. At the Darlington South Park parkrun, Rowan Steel and Matthew Foster both achieved personal bests and finished first and third finisher on the day in 17:48 and 18:30 respectively. Great running boys! Laurie Cummings broke the V80 record at Druridge Bay by exactly 3 minutes and now holds both the V75 and V80 records. This was his 114th age category record! Amazing.
