Junior Run Bursting At The Seams

Last weekend saw the return of the hugely popular Simplyhealth Junior and Mini Great North Run, and entries had reached its limit for 2018. Following unprecedented demand, organisers worked hard to accommodate additional entries for the event, which took place on Saturday8 September.

Additional places were made available to young runners earlier this year, meaning that more people than ever were able to be a part of the event. Both the Junior and Mini events reached full capacity, with a total of 9,000 children taking on the iconic route around the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside. The budding athletes and fun runners crossed the famous Great North City Games track as part of their 1.5km and 4km courses, for ages 316. The final stretch of both courses then took children over the Gateshead Millennium Bridge before crossing the finish line on the Newcastle side of the Quayside.
The event was part of one of the biggest weekends of sport in the North East’s calendar, culminating in the world’s biggest half marathon, the Simplyhealth Great North Run, on Sunday 9 September.
