It’s been a successful summer for Darlington Harriers’ very own wheelchair racer, Ollie Porter. You may have seen him in action at Gateshead’s Tartan Games last month, where he won both the 100m and 200m open wheelchair events. Ollie set new PBs in both races, which was quite an achievement on such a cold, wet & windy day!
On September 2nd he competed at the Coventry Godiva Classic in the junior 100m wheelchair race (U11 & U13), where he was narrowly beaten on the line to finish in 2nd place but took an amazing 6 seconds off his PB!!
Ollie’s not just a speed merchant on the track, but he also plays wheelchair basketball!! At the beginning of August, he was selected to represent the North East of England Under 15 team at the National Junior Championships in Worcester. The team performed brilliantly and came away with a bronze medal.
Looking ahead, Ollie plans to compete at the York Open at the end of September so we hope to keep you up to date on how he gets on.
Then it’s back to training with plenty to work on over the winter! Keep up the good work. Ollie, you’re a true inspiration
