At the midweek NEGP at Monkton stadium there were some very impressive performances from our junior athletes in both track and field disciplines. Alex Boyer’s 9.04 in the 3000m and Dylan Wilson’s 2.06 800m two of those listed below that are worth a special mention. Two huge personal bests for the athletes. Zara Jones took 5 seconds of her 800m best, Rowan Steel’s 2.15 was a 23 second PB while Savannah Tarn reduced her best by 10 seconds. Macy Kelly took over 1 minute of her previous 3000m best, team mate Freya Talman made a 46 second improvement.

Barry Foster was competing at the weekends Heineken Endure 24 hour event in Leeds, an off-road trail routes that features varied terrain and surfaces over an 8km loop with athletes looking to complete as many laps as possible. Barry completed 5 8km laps over the 24hr period…quite the accomplishment Barry, well done!

No Barry? Must be on a lap!

Results have yet to be released but Hugo finished with the following results; 80m Hurdles- 13.43; 4kg Shot- 8.31m (PB); LJ- 4.88m; HJ- 1.56m (PB) and 800m- 2.23.53 (PB). Total – 2142 (PB). Well done Hugo and anyone else competing on the day.

Sunday saw the new Great North 10k (not to be confused with the previously known Great North 10k, now known as the Gateshead 10k), a race that is performed along the quayside making it a flat and fast course with very little undulation. Some top performances on the day from all of our Harrier’s, big PB’s for Dean Standish and Ted Kerby breaking 36 and 40 minutes respectively and sandwiched between Iain McCulloch who also shaved a few seconds of his previous best. Stephen Dent placed 3rd V55 with an impressive 41.20. Michael Watson was so fast during his race that they repeated his surname twice…..

Some fabulous performances from our Couch 2 beyond ground, Trevor Mitchell leading the troops who may need a bigger medal cabinet with all of the races he’s completed in 2022. Well done all of you.
