Our club was formed in 1891, but how did the club become Darlington Harriers? Who were the people that founded the club? Read about some of the great athletes that have graced our club, Olympians George Butterfield, Robert Hawkey and Joy Grieveson. Read about Fred Wyers who competed in the 1958 Commonwealth Games and other notable athletes such as Bob Stockdale, William Wylie, Ian Barnes, Paul Harker, Lewis Moses, Kieran Maxwell who have graced our club over the years and let’s not forget all the current members. The club is steeped in the town’s history from basic beginnings to current day and these pages will be updated daily as I trawl through the British Newspaper Archives.

Get Involved
We want to see the club colours at all of our events, especially team events such as relays, National, Northern or North-Eastern where we can get together as a group, support each other and make these events a social occasion. So let me introduce you to our Senior Club Captains.
In addition to athletes, we are always looking for volunteers to support club and local events so please reach out to Sarah Johnson as your first point of contact if you can support in any way shape or form. Thank you! #UTH

Race Result
Saturday saw the National Cross Country take place at Parliament Hill where three of our Harriers were in action. These races are a real test against the best around the country on very tough conditions. Ollie Curran had an outstanding run finishing in 4th place only 5 seconds behind the winner with an excellent run from teammate Matty Richardson who finished in a very respectable 104th. Michael Harcourt finished in an excellent 320th place in a field of around 2400 senior men. Outstanding running by all three of you.

Sunday saw the return of Pocklington’s 10 mile race at Snake Lane. As the name suggests, the course has a winding stretch that snakes its way through the countryside at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds on this fairly flat course. Will Seekins was first to finish of our fab four, crossing the line in 63:16 with Natalie Hiles achieving a new PB with a 76:43 finish. Anne Hutchinson who seems to be getting faster after each race finished in 94:40 with Iain Girard, running his last race as a Harrier crossed the line in 99:34. Iain thank you for your years of service at the club, hope to see you back in club colours one day!

Ian Barnes was our only runner at the 5.5mile Old Monks Race at Hartlepool this weekend. At 90 years old Ian is still battling with runners 60 to 70 years his junior which is an incredible feat. Ian finished 59th in this race in 82:23. Well done Ian.
