Welcome to Darlington Harriers Weekly Round-up Report, keep reading to see what has occurred this week and what is coming up for club members.
How do I?…
- I have a question or want to tell you something
- I want to sign up for an event
- I want to attend a training session
- I want to purchase kit
- I want to claim a club record
- I want to read about our clubs history
- I want to tell our members about our business or see what business they support
- I want to see what discounts are available to me
- I want to read our clubs processes or policies

Our club was formed in 1891, but how did the club become Darlington Harriers? Who were the people that founded the club? Read about some of the great athletes that have graced our club, Olympians George Butterfield, Robert Hawkey and Joy Grieveson. Read about Fred Wyers who competed in the 1958 Commonwealth Games and other notable athletes such as Bob Stockdale, William Wylie, Ian Barnes, Paul Harker, Lewis Moses, Kieran Maxwell who have graced our club over the years and let’s not forget all the current members. The club is steeped in the town’s history from basic beginnings to current day and these pages will be updated daily as I trawl through the British Newspaper Archives.

Get Involved
We want to see the club colours at all of our events, especially team events such as relays, National, Northern or North-Eastern where we can get together as a group, support each other and make these events a social occasion. So let me introduce you to our Senior Club Captains.
In addition to athletes, we are always looking for volunteers to support club and local events so please reach out to Sarah Johnson as your first point of contact if you can support in any way shape or form. Thank you! #UTH

Race Result
At this weekends NECAA Signal relays we only had one team in action, our mens V50 team comprising John Clifford, Paul Cook, Simon Rogers and Alistair Hart. Each runner completes 2.2mile legs comprising of 2 laps…with 2 climbs per lap (urgh) but it’s a great well organised event where previously we’ve had multiple teams. Despite carrying this semi retired runner as part of the team, the team did brilliantly finishing 3rd overall to grab a bronze on the day. John Clifford’s first leg performance was the outstanding leg of the day. Full results can be found here

We had four of our athletes in action at Temple Newsam Ten or TNT as it’s known, an off road 10 mile race in Leeds, full of mud and a challenging course. Forget your watch on this course as it’s unlikely going to bag you a PB but it’s a great race to do if anyone is looking for a tough 10 miler. Jamie Baldasera was first home in just under 78mins with Anne Hutchinson and Iain Girard running together in 99:43, Sam Wragg putting in an excellent performance to finish in 2:02:17.

Barry Foster went to sunnier climates to race the flat and fast Alicante 10k…I mean why would you leave the beautiful weather in the UK Barry? On the day Barry managed to finish in a time of 44:07 for 123rd place and top up his tan. Well done on both counts!

Nicky Young and Steve Wilkinson headed to Durham for the ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit Love Run’ Saturn Run which they were using as preparation of long running as they train towards an ultra later in the year. Nicky and Steve managed 5 laps with over 22miles banked along the way….and some goodies too! Well done both of you.

John Clifford was back in action less than 24hrs after his heroics at the Signals Relays to take on the Valentines 10km race. We are awaiting confirmation of results for this race, and to see which other Harriers may have competed! Watch this space.
