Welcome to Darlington Harriers Weekly Round-up Report, keep reading to see what has occurred this week and what is coming up for club members.
How do I?…
- I have a question or want to tell you something
- I want to sign up for an event
- I want to attend a training session
- I want to purchase kit
- I want to claim a club record
- I want to read about our clubs history
- I want to tell our members about our business or see what business they support
- I want to see what discounts are available to me
- I want to read our clubs processes or policies

Our club was formed in 1891, but how did the club become Darlington Harriers? Who were the people that founded the club? Read about some of the great athletes that have graced our club, Olympians George Butterfield, Robert Hawkey and Joy Grieveson. Read about Fred Wyers who competed in the 1958 Commonwealth Games and other notable athletes such as Bob Stockdale, William Wylie, Ian Barnes, Paul Harker, Lewis Moses, Kieran Maxwell who have graced our club over the years and let’s not forget all the current members. The club is steeped in the town’s history from basic beginnings to current day and these pages will be updated daily as I trawl through the British Newspaper Archives.

Get Involved
We want to see the club colours at all of our events, especially team events such as relays, National, Northern or North-Eastern where we can get together as a group, support each other and make these events a social occasion. So let me introduce you to our Senior Club Captains.
In addition to athletes, we are always looking for volunteers to support club and local events so please reach out to Sarah Johnson as your first point of contact if you can support in any way shape or form. Thank you! #UTH

Race Result
At New Marske’s Summer Coast 5km run this week we had four of our senior athletes in action. This flat and fast race on the coast is always a good race to test out the legs for pace and again results didn’t disappoint. John Clifford was first of the fab four to finish in 16:49 for 8th place while Simon Rogers crossed the line in 18:38. Brian Thompson ran a solid 25:34 while Shirley Gibson finished her race in 29:50. Great times by you all.

Another fast race this week was the Sunderland Junior 2mile and senior 5k at Silksworth Leisure Centre. This race is very popular with all speed merchants due to it’s fast course in particular a downhill section on the first km. In the Junior 2mile race it was Kyle Sridhar who won in an excellent 10:29 in the U15 boys race while Daniel Callaghan was 1st in the U13’s race. Donovan Tarn finished 7th in the U15 race in 11:43, only three seconds behind Daniel while James I’Anson was 8th in 11:58 in the U15’s and Archie Appleton 5th in the U13’s in 12:57. Great running!

In the Senior and V40 race it was Lee Johnson who was top dog with an excellent 15:43 on the night for 24th place, Wes Tarn next home finishing in the magic number position ’69’ as he finished with a sub 17min run of 16:47 while youngsters Owen Ovens and Daniel I’anson finished with 17:14 and 17:33 respectively. Jamie Callaghan was our other runner on the night finishing in 20:19. Great running by all our athletes.

At the Run nation Hamsterley Forest 10km race we had one of our senior runners in action, ‘Nobby’ Wilson. This off road event around the scenic and often undulating forest saw Nobby finishing in 12th position out of a small field of 46 athletes in 56:01. Well done Nobby!

We had four of our ladies tackling the 25km Beyond Trails event at Newcastle this weekend, an event which is part of a series of trail running events, all starting in major UK cities. Beyond Trails start in city centres and take runners beyond the city, to the trails. All our ladies finished the 25km and picked up their finishers medals. Great achievement ladies, well done!
