- I want to read our clubs processes or policies
Our club was formed in 1891, but how did the club become Darlington Harriers? Who were the people that founded the club? Read about some of the great athletes that have graced our club, Olympians George Butterfield, Robert Hawkey and Joy Grieveson. Read about Fred Wyers who competed in the 1958 Commonwealth Games and other notable athletes such as Bob Stockdale, William Wylie, Ian Barnes, Paul Harker, Lewis Moses, Kieran Maxwell who have graced our club over the years and let’s not forget all the current members. The club is steeped in the town’s history from basic beginnings to current day and these pages will be updated daily as I trawl through the British Newspaper Archives.
Get Involved
We want to see the club colours at all of our events, especially team events such as relays, National, Northern or North-Eastern where we can get together as a group, support each other and make these events a social occasion. So let me introduce you to our Senior Club Captains.
In addition to athletes, we are always looking for volunteers to support club and local events so please reach out to Sarah Johnson as your first point of contact if you can support in any way shape or form. Thank you! #UTH
Race Result
Sunday saw some of our athletes in action at one of the Raby Castle races that were on offer. Raby Castle, a place where Deer roam the grounds and miles of epic scenery is the perfect location for a running event, and Wild Deer Events agreed by putting 3 races onto the event calendar. A 5, 10 or 15mile race offering on mixed terrain with some rough trails, firm paths, grass paths and woodland. Some excellent performances from our group of Harriers across these low key races, both Emma Davis and Ally Heslop finishing in podium places in their respective age groups in the 5mile race while Jeff Miller and Becky Forest finished 1st in their age group races in the 10miler and Dave McKenna second in his. In the 15mile race, former (but soon to be again) Darlington Harrier Chris Fothergill won overall with 2nd claim Dawn Richardson first lady and 3rd overall. Well done everyone who ran. Full results can be found here
We had a small number of our athletes in action midweek at the Harrowgate hill trail 5k on Wednesday, the last 5km in this local trail series. Some good results again on the night, Colin Taylor first home for the club and Kim Stephenson first lady with impressive runs from juniors Archie Appleton and Ella Harcourt. Strong performances from our other two runners Natalie Hiles and Lauren Bewick on the night.
