Twin brothers, Adam and John Russell powered their way round the 3000m at the U13/U15/U17 Northern Athletics Championships recently. Competing at Wavertree, Liverpool, the boys who are still in their first year of Under 17 put up a fantastic battle against the older athletes in what turned out to be a very exciting race.
Adam was the first of the dynamic duo to cross the line in 4th place in a time of 9:24.21, with John just a second behind in 6th place in a time of 9:25.24. Top running lads, well done! We’re sure you’ll both be on the podium next season!
There was more sibling rivalry on Saturday when Rosie and Lily Thompson headed north to take part in the Scottish Throws Grand Prix. Similar to the North East GP, this is a series of events held throughout the season where points are awarded at each meeting; this was the final one of the season, held in Edinburgh, so the girls decided to get involved.
The scoring was a bit complicated as there were 3 pools for each discipline. Rosie struggled to find her top form in the discus but had a best of 36.22m in the hammer using a new technique. Lily threw a solid 9.92m in shot and got 2 throws over 25m in the hammer with a best of 25.33m. So a great experience for the girls, heading north of the border. Well done to both!
