Sunday saw six of our clan head over to neighbours Billingham back yard for this years Absent Friends trail race. The first of three races that form part of the Run Billingham Series in 2016. The race is approximately 5 miles and is run at Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park, Billingham on a mix of terrain,
Wednesday night saw Muddy Roads 5km Pie and Peas Trail race, a race which attracted quite a few Harriers…..not sure if this was because of the night time racing or for the pie and peas which were on offer post race! Great to see members supporting these smaller races for clubs. Full results can be
Sunday saw the final cross country event at Richmond, with the senior ladies team still with an opportunity to win the league after another strong campaign. The U13 boys and girls won their leagues as did the U15 girls with Harrier men an excellent 4th. The big guns were out on the day with Georgie
We had two of our runners at the Masters XC event at Wallsend today. Competing in the 7.9km race it was Paul Helliwell who was first of our runners to finish, in 19th place and 4th V45 with Dan Hunter a solid 56th place. Phil Teece finished in 24th position, showing as running for Stockton
We had two of our club members at the Old Monks race. A 5.5 mile multi-terrain race from Hart Village through the dene. Begins on trail and goes into dene, with challenging climbs. Flat tarmac back to the finish Sue Phillips was first home from the club in 42nd place with Brian Burdon 264th place.
We had three of our athletes at the Guisborough Woods 8.8km off road race between Christmas and New Year, a race which forms part of Esk Valley’s Winter Series. Mark Milner was first home for the club in 81st place seven places ahead of Darren Stockdale in 88th with Mark Tallon 121st. Full results can
Sisters Georgie Rutherford and Susie Stephen were part of the Stoops Fell race, a 5mile race with an 800m climb over the distance. This race starts from Penistone Hill Country Park, near Haworth in West Yorkshire. Plenty time for ‘elfies during the race for our two little santa’s. Full results can be found here with
Sunday saw a trio of Harriers at the Loftus Poultry Run, a race which is now in it’s 36th year. The race is a multi-terrain course approximately 8 miles in length with three challenging ascents. Alison Matthews was the only Darlington Harrier in action at Ponteland this weekend, at the Big 10 mile race. This is a good course with plenty of undulation along the way. Alison finished 19th overall in 67.20 on the day from a field of 244 and 2nd lady across the line. Full race results can

To celebrate the clubs 125th anniversary, the club had a great piece covered in Athletics Weekly showcasing how the club was growing after a number of years in the wilderness.
Sunday saw the annual Leeds Abbey Dash, an event which attracts a high volume of PB hunters with it’s flat and fast out and back course. Some great results from all our runners on the day, Jeff Miller the first of our runners to finish. Full results can be found here
Ian Barnes and Sue Phillips made the trip to Dublin to run in the British and Irish Masters’ International. On the day, Ian finished 11th place in 23:09 and 2nd V75 earning him a silver medal with Sue 26.37 for 32nd place and 3rd F50 over the line. Full results can be found here
Friday night saw a huge turn out at the annual clubs presentation evening at Central Hall Dolphin Centre. A fantastic night for the club rewarding many of our athletes for some incredible performances over the season.
Summerhill Country Park Hartlepool was host to the 5th Fixture of the NYSD Cross Country season. A testing course along with a cool wind provided excellent racing conditions for the athletes with some tricky sections for the runners to tackle, as Peter Armstrong nearly found to his cost.
