Running alongside the Spring Track Relays, the North East Throws Festival brought together some of the best young throwing athletes from the region…..and when it comes to the Javelin, Shot Putt and Discus, Under 17 Harrier, Jasmine Sharp is a seasoned expert. She’s been a regular competitor for club and school since her Under 11 days, and last year, even represented her country at the FISEC Catholic School Games in Italy (coming home with two medals!)
This may not be Italy, but back here in the less glamorous setting of Whitley Bay, the North East competition is just as tough!
Under 17 Javelin A great start to the day with a best throw in the Javelin of 36.86m, less than a metre off her PB…..and enough for a 1st place finish! Fantastic, well done Jasmine!
Under 17 Shot Putt Once again, not far off her PB of 10.04m, Jasmines best throw tonight was 9.67m, and a 3rd place finish. What a great effort!
Under 17 Discus Jasmine produced another great performance to round of her day, by throwing 20.66m in the Discus, and finishing in 3rd place.
Overall, a tremendous performance from Jasmine; three events with a gold and two bronze medals, proving she’s certainly a force to be reckoned with. She was the only Darlington Harrier here today so it was excellent to see her doing herself and the Club proud! Top throwing, Jasmine, well done!
