Silky performances at 5km race

On Thursday evening a small number of Harriers headed to Sunderland to take on the nights 5km race at Silksworth sports complex. The event attracts a high number of runners with many of the North east’s faster runners making the trip as it’s known for it’s fast course. Due to the high number of runners the race is now split into two races, one for women and V50+ runners and another for Senior to V40+ runners.

The course has a very quick start with an extremely fast downhill section which can benefit runners if they can avoid the heavy traffic from the off. The race quickly thins out after a couple of kilometres to enable runners to settle into a rhythm and push on, on the flat and fast course.

Some excellent performances on the evening, Jeff Miller benefiting from being involved in the first race as he continued his excellent form of late to achieve a new PB of 18:10 for 10th vet and Paul Helliwell 18th making his return to racing action finishing in 18:57. Linda Noble was 27th in the women’s race in 20:33, daughter Megan 36th in 21:30.
