School Teams Head For Boro

Four Darlington school teams ventured to Middlesbrough Sports Village on Monday for the ‘A’ Final of the Track & Field Cup. Having already qualified from the previous round, a Junior Boys team from Carmel, along with Inter Boys teams from Carmel and Hummersknott and an Inter Girls team from Carmel took on teams from Northumberland down to Humberside in a bid for a place in the Cup Finals. As usual, there was a host of Harrier talent competing, producingsome outstanding performances.

Junior Boys There were 3 Junior Harriers competing for Carmel College here today. Gentle giant, Benedict Davies, was excellent in the 100m finishing 1st in his race in a time of 12.8s, bagging 22 points for Carmel. He added another 17 points when he jumped an impressive 4.41m in the high jump! Nat Bell ran the 200m in the last round but fancied increasing that to 300m after trying the distance for the first time at last week’s NYSD. It was a great decision as he romped home 50m ahead of 2nd place in a time of 38.7s (unofficially an English Schools Entry Standard time, AAA grade one and the Year 8 school record) and 30 points for Carmel. Nat finished in 2nd place in the long jump after a best on the day of 4.66m, adding another 18 points to the pot. In the 1500m, James Wilcock impressed with a time of 5:27.1 adding another 12 points to Carmel’s total. A great effort from all the boys, well done!
