Wednesday evening saw the third meeting of this season’s North East Grand Prix, and three of our junior Harriers were in action. Rosie and Lily Thompson have become regulars at this competition and they were back again here tonight. Liam Brittle, however, was looking forward to his first outing at the NEGP this season. Here’s how they got on……
1500m Steeplechase It’s only been a month or so since he started competing in this event, but for Liam Brittle, it has quickly become a bit of a speciality. He’s represented Gateshead Harriers, Darlington Schools, Durham County Schools, but this was the first time he’s run a steeplechase for Darlington Harriers! Liam was again a solo 1500m runner in a combined race with the 2000m Steeplechase, which he ran to his usual high standard. In fact, he knocked 6 seconds off his PB with a tremendous time of 4:55.5, which just happened to be a Grade 4 AAA standard time. Nice one Liam, well done!
Under 17 Javelin/Shot Rosie was on top form in the javelin. Her best throw on the night just happened to be a new PB of 19.70m, which was enough for 4th place overall…..and it was another 4th place in the shot too. Great effort, Rosie, nice to go home with a new PB underyour belt!
Under 13 Javelin/Shot Someone else who just keeps on improving is Rosie’s younger sister, Lily…..and tonight was a good example of that. She won the shot putt with a throw of 8.51m, and then went on to do the double by winning the javelin as well! Not to be outdone, her best throw in the javelin was also a PB…..20.84m, her first time over 20m. Another target reached, well done Lily.
Great performances from Liam, Rosie and Lily; a real credit to Darlington Harriers! We look forward to reporting on your next successful outing
