In early 2015, then chairman Martin Phillips and Paul Cook, who had taken a lead on Senior activity met to discuss the transformation that needed to happen to bring the senior section back from virtual non existance to a club on the up. A detailed plan was devised which looked to ensure there was a route for junior athletes to join the senior section, develop club brand through new kit and merchandise, club events, new coaches, beginner group, team captains, member recruitment, new website and a support system to ensure safety and development of athletes.
A new mindset had to be set and this urban myth of Darlington Harriers being an ‘elitist club’ removed for good. Mark Tallon joined the club from another local club and took a lead as senior captain, organising race meetings and drumming up support for the club. Linda Noble was appointed to support with the ladies senior section. The results achieved was remarkable.
