NEGP Draws To A Close

Several of our Junior athletes were in action for the 6th and final NEGP meeting recently. Monkton Stadium played host again in the last event of another successful series for North East athletics. Here’s a brief summary of the results….

75m Hurdles

A cracking run from Hugo Douglas-Reeves got things off to a great start in the 75m Hurdles. 1st U13 with a AAA Grade 4 run of 14.26s, and just a fraction off being a new PB.

200m

Lottie Graves ran a blinder in Heat 4 of the 200m. She was the 1st U13 across the line with a fantastic AAA Grade 4 time of 29.68s

In the final Heat of the evening, James Stewart produced an excellent PB with a new best of 24.24s

800m

Onto the 800m and another solid performance from Olivia Douglas-Reeves brought her home in 8th place in a super time of 2:58.16

In Heat 3, Thomas Hill put in a great effort which saw him take 4th place in an excellent 2:41.44

Savannah Tarn was on top form this evening, recording one of her fastest 800m this season. She crossed the line as the 2nd FU15 in 2:34.06

The same goes for Zara Jones who also recorded one of her fastest 800m runs with a AAA Grade 4 time of 2:25.66, taking 1st place for the FU15’s.

In tremendous form, Elwood Kelley romped home with an emphatic victory, knocking nearly 5 seconds off his PB with a new best of 2:15.68 (AAA Grade 4)

Yet another fast time came from U20, Adam Russell as he crossed the line in 2:01.69, just outside his PB.

3000m

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Alex Boyer in action; in fact this 3000m race was his first track event of this season. But some things never change and he came back in style with a superb victory, beating many an older athlete in the process; and a new PB of 9:54.84 (AAA Grade 4)

Shot Put

Under 17, Lily Thompson was getting back to her best in the 3k shot with some excellent throwing tonight. She took 2nd place overall with a best of 9.69m. And Under 13, Tomos Cowell was back again tonight, with another great effort and a best of 6.39m.

Long Jump

Another outstanding performance from Lottie Graves with a Grade 2 AAA jump of 4.46m. Her previous best was ‘wind assisted’ but this one was by far her best ‘non-wind assisted’ jump. In fact, as you can see there was a slight head wind so well done, Lottie! Under 15, Thomas Hill was also on top form with a magnificent 4.55m jump. He’s been improving all season so it was great to see another PB smashed!

Javelin

Some top throwing from Lily Thompson meant she took 1st place in the FU17 category with a best of 29.96m. And it was nice to see Under 13, Tomos Cowell have another crack at the javelin, and come away with a new PB of 12.75m.

High Jump

A jump of 1.25m was enough for Hugo Douglas-Reeves to bag maximum points tonight; this put him in joint 1st place in the NEGP overall standings with two other athletes. Well done, Hugo!

Well the 6 meetings from this series have absolutely flown over. It doesn’t seen that long since our young athletes donned their blue & white vests for the first one back in April; but here we are, all done and dusted for another season. Huge congratulations to all our Juniors who took part. There have been some outstanding performances from everyone and no end of Personal Bests. All that training really does pay off!

Notable performances came from U13’s Hugo Douglas-Reeves and Lottie Graves who finished joint 1st and 4th respectively after attending 5 meetings, and U17, Lily Thompson who finished 3rd overall after just 4 meetings.

Well done to everyone, you have done yourselves and your club proud. #UTH!
