Juniors Team Up With Seniors For Relays

It’s that time of year again… As the Track & Field season draws to a close and the Cross Country Season is once again just round the corner, the popular NYMAC Relays takes place at Stewart Park. A cash prize for the winners is always a huge attraction and over 500 runners and athletics supporters descended on the park which saw teams of four runners, each running a one mile leg.

Our Juniors joined forces with the Seniors and were involved in four of the DHAC teams; two in the Female Open and two in the Mixed category.

We haven’t heard from Under 20, Catherine Roberts for a while, but she teamed up with Mia Wetherill, Zara Jones and endurance coach, Bernadette Caygill for an incredibly strong line-up. The girls ran as you would expect, producing an impressive performance with Bernadette running the 3rd fastest leg of all the females on the night! They finished in 2nd place in an overall time of 23:25,and collected a very nice cash prize in the process!

Well done to all!

Zara, Bernadette, Mia and Catherine collect their winnings!

Our second team in the Female Open category was made up wholly of juniors, and four of the best – Macy Kelly, Emily Vest, Libby Hammond and Tori Buckley. The girls ran really well, beating many senior teams in the process, finishing just a few minutes behind Bernadette’s dream team in 26:08 to take 4th place out of the 18 teams in the category. Fantastic effort girls, well done!

Our final team was made up of three juniors and one senior athlete. Libby’s dad Lee Hammond joined Louis Brett, Freya Talman and Savannah Tarn for another Mixed Category team. Louis ran a cracking first leg and was the fastest out of the four, in fact, he was the fastest of all our junior athletes on the night completing his mile in 5:51. Savannah ran an excellent anchor leg to bring the team home in 6th place in an overall time of 26:11. Well done to all!

Under 23 Ben Lambert teamed up with three of our top junior athletes in the Mixed Category; Caitlin Minns, Harry Lyons and Alex Boyer. It was a great performance from all, with Ben running the 3rd fastest of all the male athletes on the night in 5:07. Alex ran the anchor leg to bring the team home in 23:39 to take 3rd place out of the 22 teams. Top running, well done!

Joining forces with the seniors!

A mixed team consisting of Simon Rogers, Louise and Barry Talman, and Adam Mitchell who put in the 2nd fastest time of all runners on the evening in an incredible 4:41, finished in 21:19, fastest of all mixed teams.

A special mention to Ian Barnes who also featured in an M200 team, finishing his mile in 8 minutes and 40 seconds. Well done all Harriers!
