The pounding of feet could be heard from far and wide on Thursday evening as hundreds of athletes took over Stewart Park, Middlesbrough for this popular relay event. Hosted by North Yorkshire Moors Athletic Club, their annual Spring Relay attracted teams from all across the region. It has to be said that most of them were seniors this year, but a few of our juniors joined forces with their older counterparts to complete the teams of four.
Each athlete ran a one mile leg following part of the local Park Run route, before handing over to their team mate with Tori Buckley (Under 13) and brothers, Harry Rogers (Under 11) and Ewan Rogers (Under 15) all doing their bit to help out the seniors.
Tori was part of an F160 team along with Bernadette Caygill, Sue Phillips and Linda Noble. For those that don’t know, an F160 team is an all female team where the combined ages of all members adds up to at least 160. Tori is still only 12 years old……I’ll let you do the maths!! ☺ The girls ran a cracking relay with Tori running an excellent 4th leg in an impressive 6:29, crossing the finish line in 1st place for the F160 category, nearly 4 minutes ahead of their nearest rival!
It was a real family affair for Harry and Ewan, with Mum, Zoe and Dad, Steve making up the rest of the team in the mixed category. It was a top performance from Team Rogers with Harry running the 2nd leg in an excellent 7:25 and anchor man Ewan bringing the team home with a fabulous 4th leg of 6:52, and an amazing 4th place out of the 11 mixed teams taking part.
Well done to Tori, Harry and Ewan – you’ve all done the juniors proud!
