Our juniors were in action at the fourth NYSD cross country meeting of the season last weekend. The turnout was lower than normal from the DHAC due to a last training session arranged before the following week’s NE Championships, and the Croft 5k the day before. But for those that were there it was a tough day of competition and, as always, some excellent performances from the blue & white vests. Here’s how the day went…..
Under 11 Boys Having missed the last NYSD meeting, it was great to see brothers Sonny and Luca Campbell-Critchley back again today.
Playing the supporting roll of ‘big brother,’ Sonny stayed with Luca from start to finish as they tackled the tough XC circuit, and crossed the finish line virtually together. What a superstar! Luca finished in 14th place in 10:46 with Sonny just one second behind in 15th. Cracking performance boys, well done!
nder 11 Girls By now we’re all familiar with the four regular faces of the Under 11 girls here today. Continuing with an outstanding season, Zara Jones was the first of them to finish with yet another top 3 placing. This time it was an excellent 3rd place in an impressive time of 6:44, just 3 seconds behind 2nd place. Just two places behind Zara, in 5th place was Savannah Tarn, who is going from strength to strength and also having a fantastic cross country season. She crossed the line in an excellent time of 7:30. Next up, someone who has certainly made her mark this season with an impressive string of runs, and today was her best placing yet; Lottie Graves crossed the line in an excellent 9th place, in an equally impressive time of 7:52. After an excellent debut at Preston Park is was fantastic to see Grace Hall back again for more! And what an improvement finishing just a couple of places outside the points in 12th. An excellent time too of 8:17. Well done to all our Under 11 Girls, a tremendous effort from all
Under 13 Boys There were just the two of our Under 13 regulars here today, but for what they lacked in numbers they made up for with two tremendous performances! Alex Boyer has proved himself again and again this season and today he did it again as he stormed round the circuit to take 1st place by a clear 16 seconds, with an impressive time of 10:54. Team mate, Dylan Wilson piled on the pressure to produce another healthy 5 points by finishing in 6th place. It was a close run thing as he crossed the line in 11:36, just one second behind the Middlesbrough Mandale athlete in 5th. Well done boys, top running from both!
Under 17 Boys There were no Under 13 Girls or any Under 15’s today so it’s straight onto the Under 17 Boys, solely represented by James Roberts. He’s had a great season so far and things were looking good, but lady luck certainly wasn’t on his side today – just before the half way point a thorn went through his spike and into his foot! Ouch!! He tried to continue but unfortunately had to retire from the race. Great effort James, better luck next time!
Under 17 Girls As usual the Under 17 Girls ran with the Senior Women, and Millie Grayson was back in action again today. She’s had an excellent season so far and today she added another solid run to that, being the 5th Under 17 to cross the line. An impressive time too of 27:44. Well done, Millie, keep up the good work!
Well done to all our junior Harriers competing today. As always, a great effort from all, leading to some fantastic results. A big thank you to Karen Harland for her photos – you can see loads more from this event by clicking here. A note for your diary; the next NYSD meeting is on January 20th at Ormesby Hall, Middlesbrough. It would be great to see you there! #UTH
