They’ve been a long time coming, but at last, the results for the first NYSD meeting are out! There was a great turnout of young North East athletes all eager to get started with the first of the six track and field fixtures. Amongst them were, of course, a host of our junior Harriers so here’s a brief rundown on how things went…..
Under 11’s First up we have two young Harriers who’ve already made a name for themselves, both making their T & F debut today. Lottie Graves was a regular competitor at the NYSD cross country runs, and she certainly put up a battle here in the 600m. She finished in an excellent 4th place just a couple of seconds behind the winner, in a time of 2:04.6. For the boys we had Hugo Douglas Reeves; he’s already shown he’s a force to be reckoned with by winning the Blyth Sportshall Series for Year 5 athletes. Today he continued in that same vein by winning the 600m in 1:54.7. He also took 2nd place in the long jump with a best of 3.49m. Fantastic debuts from both, well done!

Under 13 Boys Our Under 13’s were out in force again and their first track event on the NYSD program was the 1500m. Harry Lyons has soon made a name for himself since joining the club, and he was the first of them to finish today; an excellent 3rd place, 5:15.7. Not far behind, after a terrific run, was Elwood Kelley in 5th place in 5:20.1, and just two places behind him was Josh Scott, who crossed the line in 5:31.6. That’s three athletes in the top 7! Next up after a fantastic effort was Matthew Vest in 16th and making his track debut for the club was Jack Johnson, not far behind in 17th place. Some top running from the boys, well done to all! It was great to see both Josh and Matthew having a crack at the high jump as well, both jumping 1.10m which was only 5cm behind the winner! Well donelads! ☺
Under 13 Girls Five of our Under 13 Girls were in action tonight across the 3 events on offer. In the 1500m our endurance regular Libby Hammond put in another excellent performance to finish 2nd in 5:39.4, and it was great to see Savannah Tarn making her NYSD track debut tonight. A regular at the cross country events, and now in her first year at Under 13, tonight she proved she can perform on the track as well by finishing 5th in 6:03.2. In the 200m, it was the first NYSD performance for new member, Emily Hornsby, and what a great effort she made; with only 0.6s between the top 3, Emily crossed the line in 30.8s in 3rd place. In the second heat of the 200m it was a real battle to the line for Tori Buckley. In the end it was a close 3rd place, finishing in exactly 31.0s, just 0.3s behind 2nd. Not far behind was another new face, Isobel Wright, making her NYSD debut. An excellent first time out finishing in 4th place in 32.5s. Tori and Isobel were also in action in the high jump. Some great jumping from both girls with Tori finishing in 2nd place with 1.20m and Isobel in 5th place with 1.15m. Another fantastic performance from our U13 Girls. Well done to all! ☺
Under 15 Boys Sprinter and High Jumper, Benedict Davies was the only Under 15 Boy here tonight. He’s had a great start to this, his first year at the age group. Tonight he smashed his PB in the 200m with a time of 26.2s, crossing the line in 3rd place. Well done Benny!
Under 15 Girls There was a good turnout from our Under 15 Girls, with five of them competing tonight. In the 1500m a tremendous run brought Mia Wetherill home in 3rd place. An exciting finish with only 4 seconds separating the top 5! Mia finished in an impressive 5:05.4. Our next junior to finish was all rounder, Sophia Hill. She crossed the line in 10th place in 5:35.7, closely followed by Emily Vest in 11th place, who finished in 5:41.6. And finally, with an excellent NYSD track debut was Macy Kelly. A great effort saw Macy across line in 13th place in a time of 5:59.8. Sophia had a busy night taking part in two field events as well; in the High Jump she took 2nd place with a best on the night of 1.20m, and in the Javelin an impressive throw of 18.14m produced another 2nd place for Sophia. Also competing in the Javelin was throws maestro, Lily Thompson. Just a few centimetres behind Sophia put Lily in 3rd place tonight with a best of 18.03m. A fantastic all round performance from our U15 girls, well done to all!
Under 17 Boys Two of our Under 17 Boys competed in the fastest of the three Graded 1500m races against other U17s and senior athletes. Dan Boyer was in fine form finishing in 3rd place with a new PB of 4:19.1. Not far behind, James Roberts put in a great effort to finish in 14th place in 4:58.7. A tremendous performance from both, well done lads!
Under 20 Women Now in her first year at U20, the talented India Oates was competing in one of the Graded 200m races tonight. She ran a super race finishing in 4th place in an impressive 34.50s. Well done, India!
A fantastic performance across the board from our Junior Harriers, producing some excellent results……and a great start to the NYSD T&F series, we’re sure you’ll agree.
