Hugo Does It Again

Under 13 Harrier, Hugo Douglas-Reeves was up to his old tricks again today. He was part of the Abbey School team competing at Darlington’s Primary School Cross Country Championships, winning the Year 6 Boys race for the 3rd year running. In recent years the organisers have had ‘hares’ running ahead of the junior athletes to show them the way around the course. Now, the ‘hares’ are on two wheels! So Hugo’s race strategy was to keep up with the bike and it certainly paid off – he won by a country mile! And with all the rain we’ve had recently it was quite a muddy affair, so he was pleased he’d packed his spikes!

His Harrier team mate and friend, Daniel I’Anson, also from Abbey, had a tremendous run too, finishing in 4th place. The boys now progress to the Tees Valley XC Championships on 16th October so we wish them both the best of luck!

In the Year 5 race we also had Junior representatives feature amongst the Top 10 Qualifiers. Rowan Steel (High Coniscliffe) won impressively followed by Matthew Foster (Mowden) in 5th place. Well done boys, we look forward to seeing how you do at the Tees Valley Schools event!

If you know of any other Junior Harriers who took part in Darlington’s or any other school XC competition, please let us know…..and if you have any photos, that would be even better!
