Hundreds of young athletes descended upon Eastbourne Sports Complex recently as the local senior schools met for a full day of athletic competition. As you can imagine there were plenty of our Junior Harriers present, this time wearing their school colours, all battling it out in a bid to be crowned Town Champions! Many were here after the previous day’s NEYDL, and the weather was just as glorious, if not hotter! It was certainly another day of trying to stay cool – not easy when you’re running round an athletics track!
There were plenty of top performances today and although it was too hot at times, there were even some town records broken. Our Harriers certainly stood out from the crowd, and added plenty of vital points to their schools’ total; here’s a few highlights from the day’s events….
Another few performances worthy of mention….Lily Thompson managed 2nd place in the Javelin. She would have rather done the shot putt but that was the event she was given by her school. Just for the record the throw that beat her was a new town record of 20.79m. Lily’s PB is 20.84m…..just saying ☺ Another school decision that seemed a bit odd – renowned for her sprinting, Niamh Bishop was awarded the shot putt! She gave it a good go mind and came away with 2nd place after throwing 7.73m.
We think you’ll agree there were some pretty impressive performances from our young Harrier Heroes. We’re confident that their teachers will be very pleased to have them competing for their school! Anyway, the final result……congratulations to all at Carmel College who were crowned overall champions for the 30th consecutive year!! Well done to all.
