Saturday saw the annual North East Cross Country Championships at Alnwick, an opportunity to compete with the very best in the area across tough terrain. In the U17/20 women’s race Lucy-erin Hunter was in fine form taking the win in 19:06 over the 5km distance while John Russell had a strong run in the U17M race finishing 4th in 21:11 with brother Adam 8th in 21:42. In 16th place was Dan Boyer in 22:50 and Harry Wilson 33rd in 26:20 in a very strong field. In the senior womens race, over the 8km distance it was Jade Hutchinson who was first home in 27th place in 37:34 ahead of Amy Pickworth, 49th in 40:01 and Sarah Wilson 95th in 44:39.
The Senior mens race proved equally exciting with Lewis Moses leading the team home despite only having a few weeks training to finish 8th in 44:39 ahead of Adam Mitchell in 22nd in 46:47 and Drew Inglis and John Clifford battling it out for 30th and 31st in 47:20 and 47:30 respectively. Wes Tarn who has been in excellent form in cross country finished in an impressive 37th in 48:10 with Paul Allan the final points counter in 48th position in 49:24.
Unfortunately this wasn’t quite enough to clinch a medal and left the men 4th just 3 places from a bronze.
Shaun Marshall (89th in 52:48) Barry Talman (92nd in 53:05) and Kevin Wilson (149th in 57mins) all put in great performances on the day.
All of you should be exceptionally proud for your efforts.
