Two of our Junior Harriers were among the many budding young athletes taking part in the Fantastic Four at Middlesbrough Sports Village today.
Hugo Douglas Reeves and Olivia Guy gave it their all as they ran, jumped, and threw their way through an afternoon of competition.
The event is designed as a relaxed introduction to competitive athletics, with the emphasis on having fun in a supportive environment. Anyone in Years 3 & 4, or 5 & 6 are welcome, whether they’re a member of an athletics club or not and, as the name suggests, all athletes take part in four events
Years 3 & 4 – 75m sprint, Long Jump, 300m and Howler Throw
Years 5 & 6 – 75m sprint, Long Jump, 600m and Howler Throw

Hugo is an old hand at these multi-event competitions. He was the overall winner at the Blyth Sportshall Athletics Series last year (a similar indoor event) and his experience shone through here. He won all four events in the Year 5 & 6 category, taking maximum points!
For Olivia, this was her first time at this type of event and she performed very well, also in the Year 5 & 6 group, and had fun at the same time which is what it’s all about!
The only dampener on the day was the weather, which was awful – so much so that the long jump and howler had to be moved indoors to the sportshall and the long jump became a standing long jump, but apart from that a good day was had by all.
Well done Hugo and Olivia for two excellent overall performances!
Look out for the next Fantastic Four, this time indoors at the Macmillan Academy, Middlesbrough on the 17th November.
