It’s been a while, but at last, our Junior Harriers enjoyed some cross country action once again, in an inter-club competition on Sunday. Hosted by our friends at Allerton Junior Athletics Club, Knayton Park, near Thirsk was the setting for the DHAC v Allerton showdown as the two clubs battled it out.
Most of our regulars were there, along with one or two new faces, and as you’d expect they all did amazingly well. Here’s a rundown of how they got on…..
Under 11s (Mixed)
All but two of the athletes in this 1 mile race were from Allerton. But our two DHAC youngsters were both excellent, with Finn Pentland-Rice taking 1st place in 6:24 and James I’Anson not far behind in 3rd with a time of 6:32. Top performance boys, well done!
Under 13 Boys
A close race this one, as all athletes competed the 2.4k course within 45 seconds of each other. Hugo Douglas-Reeves was the first of our DHAC boys to cross the line taking 2nd place in an impressive 9:30. Daniel I’Anson wasn’t far behind in 9:47 to take 6th place, followed by Freddie Radmore in 8th place finishing in 9:59. Well done lads, great results!
Under 13 Girls
It was the same 2.4k course for the girls, with four of our regular endurance athletes competing. Zara Jones dominated proceedings, beating her nearest arrival by 11 seconds! Zara took 1st place in an impressive 9:26. It couldn’t have been closer with our other three girls who virtually crossed the line together; Freya Talman finished in 6th place in 10:22, with Lottie Graves given 7th and Savannah Tarn 8th, both with a time of 10:23! Top running girls, well done!
Under 15s (Mixed)
The boys and girls ran together again here and once again the race was dominated by one of our own. In his first event as an Under 15, Alex Boyer showed that nothing much has changed as far as he’s concerned! He won by a clear 19 seconds in a rather impressive 8:26. Our other U15 boy, Matthew Vest put in a great effort to take 9th place in a time of 10:00 exactly. Surprising herself, the first DHAC girl to cross the line, was pentathlete, Tori Buckley. She showed real determination finishing in 2nd place for the girls (5th overall) in a fabulous time of 9:33. Next up was Macy Kelly with another excellent run, crossing the line in 9:55 to take 3rd for the girls, closely followed by Libby Hammond who put in a great performance to finish in 4th place in 10:01. A fabulous effort from all, well done!
Under 17s/Under 20s (Mixed)
We had six athletes in this mixed 3 mile race. The oldest was Daniel Boyer in the U20s and, like his younger brother, he dominated the race from gun to tape. He won comfortably with a 65 second lead, crossing the line in 16:31. Taking 1st place for the U17 boys was Harrier team mate, Harry Wilson. He put in a real gutsy performance to finish in 17:36. Next up was Marissa Boon, who was the first girl across the line after another one of her terrific runs; an excellent time too of 19:06. Another Harrier took 2nd place for the girls in he shape of Mia Wetherill; a great effort from Mia, finishing in 20:12. And only 5 seconds could separate 3rd and 4th place with Emily Vest just finishing ahead of Olivia Douglas-Reeves in 22:34 and 22:39 respectively. Today was Olivia’s first outing in the blue and white vest so we hope you enjoyed the event and see you competing again soon! An excellent performance from all.
Overall an outstanding effort from our Junior Harriers, and it’s nice to see they haven’t lost any of that competitive spirit! Lets hope it’s not too long before the next competition comes round! Thanks to our parents for the photos.
