Under 11 Harrier, Hugo Douglas-Reeves was in action again last Thursday, this time representing Darlington at the Tees Valley Primary School XC Championships. After winning the qualifying round at Darlington, he produced another outstanding performance to do “the double” by winning the Year 5 race at Middlesbrough.
What makes this more impressive is that someone caught his foot at the start of the race so it wasn’t properly inside his trainer, all the way round! But he didn’t panic, ran the race like a pro just tucking in behind the leader, then passed him on the final bend to take the lead. As he came into the funnel, his trainer flew off but he still crossed the line to win by a good 5m!
This was the second year running he’s managed the double, so he’s already looking forward to next year where’s he’s aiming for the triple by doing the same again in Year 6! Best of luck, Hugo, we’re right behind you!
