NECAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

Three of our Junior Girls were in action this weekend at the North East’s premier indoor competition. This talented trio did amazingly well and each one of them brought home a medal!

On the Saturday, it was the first outing this year for Under 15, Lily Thompson. We all know that Lily excels in all the throwing disciplines, but perhaps her favourite is the shot put, and that’s what she competed in today. She was up against some top athletes, including the aptly named, Molly Thrower from New Marske Harriers.

First of many medals to come for Lily

Lily produced some excellent throws, with a best of 9.66m, which was enough to take 3rd place. A tremendous start to the season, although we’re sure there’s lots more to come yet!

On the Sunday, it was time for the sprinters and we had two of our best in action; Under 15, Kate Williams and Under 17, Charlotte Rutter.

Kate was competing in the straight 60m sprint. She had a great heat, a good start and a strong run to cross the line in 1st place – just. There was some tough competition today, she knew that to get anywhere in the final, she was going to need a PB. In the final, Kate pulled out all the stops, pushing hard and crossing the line in 3rd place to take the bronze medal…..and yes, a new PB of 8.23s!

On the podium again – more success for Kate and Charlotte.

Next up we had Charlotte, our Hurdles specialist, taking on the 60m Hurdles. Heat 1 and Charlotte was up to her usual standard with a comfortable win in a time of 9.06s. On to the final and she had her work cut out with some tough competition but, she didn’t disappoint, finished with an outstanding performance to take 1st place once again; with a new PB 8.9s.

Well done to all three girls, top performances from all, and a medal to boot!
