Welcome to Darlington Harriers Weekly Round-up Report, keep reading to see what has occurred this week and what is coming up for club members.
How do I?…
- I have a question or want to tell you something
- I want to sign up for an event
- I want to attend a training session
- I want to purchase kit
- I want to claim a club record
- I want to read about our clubs history
- I want to tell our members about our business or see what business they support
- I want to see what discounts are available to me
- I want to read our clubs processes or policies

Our club was formed in 1891, but how did the club become Darlington Harriers? Who were the people that founded the club? Read about some of the great athletes that have graced our club, Olympians George Butterfield, Robert Hawkey and Joy Grieveson. Read about Fred Wyers who competed in the 1958 Commonwealth Games and other notable athletes such as Bob Stockdale, William Wylie, Ian Barnes, Paul Harker, Lewis Moses, Kieran Maxwell who have graced our club over the years and let’s not forget all the current members. The club is steeped in the town’s history from basic beginnings to current day and these pages will be updated daily as I trawl through the British Newspaper Archives.

Get Involved
We want to see the club colours at all of our events, especially team events such as relays, National, Northern or North-Eastern where we can get together as a group, support each other and make these events a social occasion. So let me introduce you to our Senior Club Captains.
In addition to athletes, we are always looking for volunteers to support club and local events so please reach out to Sarah Johnson as your first point of contact if you can support in any way shape or form. Thank you! #UTH

Race Result
The weekend also saw some of our seniors in action at the North East Masters at Acklam, with some impressive performances. Amy Pickworth finished 3rd lady in the F40 race, Naomi Hall matching that performance in the F45 race. Sue Phillips took 1st place in the F60 race, Jo Scott an excellent 4th while Ian Barnes was the only runner in the M90 race to take yet another crown.

Michael Harcourt finished 3rd M40 and 4th overall while John Clifford won the M50 race and actually finished 6th overall male. Excellent performances from all of our athletes on the day, and congratulations to all our medal winners.

We had lots of PB’s down at Dewsbury’s 10km this Sunday, a race which sees runners run a slight incline in the first 5km before turning and utilising the downhill on the second half making negative split running pretty much a given. This course is quick and sells out quickly so keep this in mind for any PB hunters in 2026. Andrew Bainbridge was first home with his best ever 10km in 36:25, Nathan Price who dressed down for the occasion, following suit breaking 37mins for 36:57 while Kim Stephenson finished her run in 44:53. Great running by all three of you.

I mean lets be honest who doesn’t want to do a race which starts in one country and finishes in another? Armed with passports some of our senior Harriers headed to Carlisle to run the X-Border 10km finishing in Gretna. Iain Girard was out first Harrier home in 54.17 ahead of Anne Hutchinson, 57.35, first lady. Hilary Bevan and Samantha Stanley ran the course together in 67:41 with Brian Burdon 72:22. Well done to our fantastic 5!

Last but by no means least Dave McKenna was in action at the 10mile Cod Beck Canter, a race with 1880ft of climbing over at Ingleby Cross. Dave finished the race in 96th place in 1hr 43.43 on a tough course.
