Five of our junior girls were back at Gateshead on Thursday for more indoor track and field action. It was another busy night at the popular Gateshead College indoor venue which attracted a host of athletes, junior and senior, from all across the region.
Under 13 Girls 60m Hurdles It was great to see young Tori Buckley here tonight. One, because of the recent problems she’s been having with Plantar Fasciitis, and two, because this was her first ever indoor meeting. We know she’s been prescribed insoles for the PF and they must be doing the trick….Tori had a great start to her indoor athletics with a 3rd place, in a fantastic time of 12.1s. A fabulous start Tori, and an automatic PB; something you can aim to beat next time. Well done!
Under 15 Girls 60m Hurdles Darcey Garbutt has already proved her worth on the outdoor track, and now she’s doing the same again indoors. It was close at the line but Darcey just sneaked it, taking 1st place in her heat, which was also 1st overall, in an impressive time of 9.70s. It was also the first time she’d beaten Alice Geoghegan from Morpeth Harriers, so an excellent result all round. Great stuff Darcey, well done

Under 17 Girls 60m Hurdles It was great to see Charlotte Rutter back in action again. This was her first time out for the new season, and her debut as an Under 17. She certainly started off where she finished last season, winning clearly in an excellent time of 9.43s – which is a new PB! Although she has run faster over 60m, so why a new PB? At U17, although the height stays the same, the gaps between the hurdles is as it would be for 80m outdoors, so in effect is a different event to learn. So it’s classed as a new PB! Good to have you back, Charlotte, well done!
Under 17 Girls 60m An U20 and a couple of seniors were amongst Charlotte’s competition in her first U17 60m. She ran with her usual flair and comfortably polished off her opponents with another 1st place and another PB, with an excellent time of 8.31s. Nice one Charlotte!
Under 13 Shot Putt Tori was back for another indoor debut, this time in the shot. She continued to improve all throughout the outdoor track & field season at this event. Tonight she completely smashed her previous outdoor PB with a throw of 6.46m to finish in 1st place. Incidentally, this also beat all the Under 13 Boys!! Tremendous throwing Tori, well done!
Under 15 Shot Putt After a tremendous season as an Under 13 athlete, Lily Thompson now has to battle it out as an Under 15. She hasn’t thrown for a month with other things going on in her busy life, but still managed to throw an impressive 9.04m, which was enough to take 3rd place. Great throw Lily, well done!

Under 17 Shot Putt Lily’s big sister, Rosie Thompson, was in action in the Under 17’s and, like Lily, hadn’t thrown for a month (what busy lives these girls lead!) She still managed a very respectable throw of 9.69m, finishing in 4th place. Great effort Rosie, well done!

Under 17 Girls Long Jump The third event of the night for Charlotte and another excellent result. Her best jump on the night was 4.85m, and enough for 3rd place only 2cm behind 2nd. It was also enough to beat both her indoor and outdoor PB’s, so a fantastic night all round for Charlotte. Well done!
