Just some of our Junior Harrier team competing today
The second meeting of the British Milers club took place on Monday night with three of our top Junior athletes taking part. Another cold night was the welcome for India Pentland and Ellie Phillips who both ran in the 800m (although not in the same race), and Lucy-Erin Hunter who ran in the 3000m.
India was first up – and what a race! A fantastic effort which resulted in her knocking 3 seconds off her previous PB, setting a new time of 2:13.1; that’s three seconds under the English Schools qualifying time for the 800m for her age group. Not bad for her first track race of the season! Well done, India.
Ellie also had an excellent run in her 800m race, finishing only six seconds off her PB. She crossed the line in 8th place in a time of 2:29.99. Great stuff, well done Ellie.
Apart from cross country, this was only the second time Lucy-Erin had competed at 3000m, and the other was indoors at the Norther Athletics Open Meeting at Sheffield last year. Her time then was 10:08.07, her time tonight was 10:08.67! Considering the conditions tonight that’s a fantastic run, so hopefully she’ll be able to beat that time later in the season. Well done Lucy-Erin.
For those of you not familiar with the British Milers Club, it is the premier middle distance athletics club in the country. It is open to Under 15’s and above, but only to those athletes who have achieved the required qualifying times.
