Success For Hugo At Indoor Meet

One of our younger junior athletes has started to turn a few heads with some of the excellent results he’s produced this year. Hugo Douglas-Reeves has already proved himself as a worthy cross country runner, having won the Darlington and the Tees Valley XC Championships for the last two years!

Last week he moved indoors when he took part in the second meeting of the Blyth Sportshall Athletics Series, where he also proved himself as a bit of an all rounder. This popular series has four meetings throughout the winter and is held at the Bede Academy, Blyth which is open to budding athletes from school years 3 up to year 8. Hugo, who is in year 5 had to contend with a 64m sprint, a 448m endurance run, vertical jump, standinglong jump, and finally a 2kg chest push.

Poised for action, and a record breaking jump

From the five events, Hugo came away with wins in three of them! Overall he was the top year 5 boy on points and even broke an alltime year 5 record for the standing long jump, with an impressive 1.93m! Not only that, but he managed to put Darlington Harriers AC up into 10th place on the club points table, even though he was the only competitor from the club…..and this was up against the likes of Gateshead Harriers and North Shields Poly!
A fantastic performance, Hugo, well done! We look forward to seeing you in action when the track and field season begins!

Hugo the Harrier, he’s a Record Breaker!!
