This weekend saw the return to Track & Field events in the region.
Events are quite different due to the Covid-19 situation, but organisers, officials, volunteers and athletes all seem to be managing extremely well.
The first of the local events was The Tyne Tees Summer Grand Prix at Middlesbrough Sports Village on Saturday 22nd August, we there were six DHAC athletes in action across the day.
We had four athletes competing in they 800m, in race 1 U17 Marissa Boon finished in 2nd with a PB of 2:32.12 (that PB didn’t last long due to competing the following day too), U17 Mia Wetherill finished in 3rd with 2:34.00 and Amy Pickworth finished in 5th with a PB and age group club record of 2:38.39. In race 2 Liviu Ionita finished in 4th place with PB of 2:03.59
Sarah Johnson gave herself a very busy day, competing in four events. Finishing 4th in the 100m (14.04), 3rd in the 200m (PB 29.37) and 5th in the 400m (PB 71.33) then rounded the day off with a 3rd place in the Shot Put (8.02m).
Finally in the Field we had U15 throwing expert Lily Thompson who finished 2nd with a PB of 10.58m.
Fantastic throws from Lily, just two centimetres off English Schools qualifying mark and putting her well within the top 20 on the UK rankings list.
It’s great too see our athletes back in competition, looking forward to seeing more over the next few weeks.
