Two of our juniors were back indoors again last weekend for another Northern Athletics Open Meeting. Darcey Garbutt and Kate Williams travelled to the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield for some fast and furious action on the famous indoor circuit.
Under 15 60m Always a popular event, Darcey was in the first of eight heats, and as with the last Open meeting they were mixed gender races, this one having 3 boys and 3 girls. Darcey ran a great race finishing in 5th place, and the 2nd placed girl. An excellent time and a new PB of 8.14s.
Kate was in Heat 3, along with 4 other girls and 3 boys. Another excellent run, crossing the line in 6th place in another new PB of 8.50s. Two fantastic performances, well done girls! Unfortunately, Kate who was due to run in the 150m, had to retire due to illness. Hope you’re ok now Kate. ☺
Under 15 150m This was the first time Darcey had run this distance and was drawn in Heat 3 as the only girl, against 4 other boys! She had a great run, finishing 5th, and setting a new PB of 19.87s. This turned out to be 3rd overall for the girls. She said afterwards that it felt strange running up and down the bend! Something I’m sure you’ll get used to! Great effort, Darcey, well done.
Under 15 Girls 60m Hurdles Not a boy in site this time! Just 14 girls in total across 3 heats. Darcey was in Heat 1 and ran a really strong race. She finished in 4th place with yet another new PB of 9.65s, which was also 4th place overall. Nice one, Darcey well done.
