Eight DHAC athletes headed down to York on 27th May to represent The North East in the annual Northern Athletics Inter-Counties. Athletes were selected for the team based on finishing in the Top 2 at the recent NECAA T&F Championship. DHAC did have many more athletes finish in the Top 2 at that event, however, the Inter-Counties is for U15 & U17 athletes only and does not hold every event every year.
Our eight athletes competed in ten events, achieving three personal bests and breaking one club record:
U15M 80mH – Hugo Douglas-Reeves (12.32s), breaking his own record from earlier this season.
DHAC members continue to show their support for athletics in the region with Brian Burdon and Sarah Johnson officiating on the day. Mark Tallon, in his Northern Athletics Competitions and Events Administrator role was meeting manager for the day.
The athletes picked up points in their events, helping The North East to a second placed finish:

The following day at the same track in York, Tori Buckley raced for second claim club Gateshead Harriers in the Upper YDL (DHAC do not have a team in the Upper YDL (U17/U20)):

Next up for our junior athletes is the Schools County Championships on 10th June (we’ll have athletes at Durham and Cleveland), then to the Schools Inter-Counties on 17th June followed by some of the U17 athletes helping the Senior Team at Shildon on 18th June and the third NEYDL fixture at Shildon on 25th June.
