New PB’s For DHAC’s Dynamic Duo!

Two of our fastest young sprinters were in action last weekend at the Under 13/15 Indoor Championships. The English Institute Of Sport opened it’s doors to hundreds of young athletes including our very own Kate Williams (U13) and Charlotte Rutter (U15.)

Kate’s first event was the Long Jump where the results list her as finishing in 6th place (although her longest jump of 4.20m was actually joint 5th!) Not quite a PB but her longest jump indoors to date so not a bad start! Well done Kate. She also took part in the 60m sprint where she performed admirably, making it all the way to the final! To get there she finished 3rd in her heat in a time of 8.75s, and 3rd again in the semi-final in 8.64s, setting a new PB at the same time!

To get to the final is an achievement in itself; here Kate finished in an excellent 5th place in a time of 8.76s. An impressive overall performance, Kate, tremendous!

Charlotte’s first event was the long jump, for the Under 15’s. Her best on the day was 4.31m where she finished 22nd against some tough competition and a huge field of 44 jumpers! One of Charlotte’s favourite events next – the 60m hurdles. While most find this event one to stay clear of, Charlotte has mastered it, and simply flies over those hurdles! This was evident in her heat where she finished 1st and set a new PB of 9.64s!

She then went on to the final, only to beat that and set another PB of 9.62s! The icing on the cake was finishing 3rd to receive the bronze medal! Amazing result, well done Charlotte. She also entered the 60m sprint where she finished 3rd in her heat in a time of 8.74s, which set a new Season’s Best, but just missed out on getting to the next round.

A place on the podium for Charlotte after a new PB in the 60m Hurdles
