NEGP 1 – 26th April 2023 – Jarrow

The always popular series of Wednesday evening open meets got underway with the first fixture of the season at Jarrow on 26th April. This one featured some of the “odd” distances in the sprints with races over 75m, 150m and 300m, the 1500m on offer for the middle distance athletes and in the field there were High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and Javelin competitions, all of these events followed the sprint hurdles for Senior and U20 athletes only.

A strong DHAC turnout with 23 athletes competing. Our 23 athletes competed in 26 events, with 19 personal best (or first time) performances and five club records set or broken. In addition to the athletes we also had four members officiating at the meet, Sarah Johnson, Amy Pickworth, Brian Burdon and Trevor McDermot – without the support of the volunteer officials, we wouldn’t have competitions to compete in, great to see strong DHAC representation in this area.

First on track were a series of seven 150m sprints, DHAC represented by five athletes in four of the races:
U17W: Libby Hammond – 20.14s (PB)
U20W: Krista Bissett Brown – 20.18 (PB)
SenM: Karl Murray – 18.48s (PB) CLUB RECORD
V40M: Andy Harrison – 18.24s (PB) CLUB RECORD
V50M: Mark Stewart – 20.43s (PB) CLUB RECORD

Ten times the distance for the next set of races as 16 DHAC athletes took to the start of the 1500m:
Ollie Curran – 5:06.06 (PB)
James I’Anson – 5:27.74 (PB)
Lucas Rogers – 5:36.98 (PB)
Sasha Patterson – 5:34.88 (PB)
Rowan Steel – 4:32.13 (PB)
Matthew Foster – 4:37.58 (PB)
Aidan Patterson – 5:29.81 (PB)
Matilda Owens – 5:24.26 (PB)
Charlotte Owens – 5:35.38 (PB)
Grace Robinson-Tregear – 5:46.36

Freya Talman – 5:03.53
Savannah Tarn – 5:25.17
Dylan Wilson – 4:22.80 (PB)

U17W: Libby Hammond – 45.41s
V40M: Andy Harrison – 38.18s (PB) CLUB RECORD
V50M: Mark Stewart – 44.28s (PB) CLUB RECORD

Some more great early season performances from our athletes. Next up is the Charles Stuart Open on Sunday 30th April and then it’s the NECAA Championships on 13th and 14th May. Unfortunately the first NYSD meet that was planned for 2nd May has been cancelled (potentially moving to a date in August).
