Juniors Turn Out In Force At Gateshead

Last Sunday saw the return of the ever popular Tartan Games at Gateshead’s International Stadium…..and despite the appalling weather conditions, there was a great turnout of our Junior Harriers. After the excellent summer we’ve had, it was back to a typical Bank Holiday weekend spent trying to keep warm and sheltering from the rain – a taste of what’s to come, perhaps, for the cross country season just around the corner!
But the wet conditions didn’t dampen the spirits of our juniors who ran, jumped and threw to the best of their abilities. PB’s weren’t going to be easy today but as always, our Harrier heroes gritted their teeth and gave it their all

There were yet more notable performances, but sorry, no photos this time: making his debut for Darlington Harriers was Under 11 star of the future, Hugo Douglas-Reeves. Two excellent performances and two bronze medals to go with them! Hugo ran 2:09.14 in the 600m and 9.87s in the 60m, setting himself two fantastic PB’s in the process. A great start to your athletics, well done Hugo! The Thompson girls were in action again, adding more medals to the family collection! Rosie Thompson was on fire today with new PB’s in the shot putt (9.82m) and Discus (27.76m), taking bronze medals in both, and just missed out on a medal in the Hammer Throw, finishing 4th. Just the Shot Putt for Lily Thompson today, butanother medal as she finished an excellent 3rd place with a best of 8.33m.
Despite the awful conditions, there were some excellent performances from our Junior Harriers, and even a few PB’s thrown in for good measure. Well done to all who took part; you all showed true grit and determination under the most difficult of circumstances!
