The cool, damp weather was a welcome site to the thousands of athletes that took part in Darlington’s 10k last weekend. The popular event was in it’s 31st year and, as always, attracted a host of entrants of all abilities from across the north east. There were three races to choose from on the day, starting off with a short Family Fun Run, before the Junior 3k, followed by the main 10k race.
There was a huge turnout of Darlington Harriers, including of course plenty of our juniors. Most of them ran in the 3k Junior Run, but some of the older ones tackled the full 10k! The Junior 3k Run, for runners aged 8 to 14, started on Houndgate at 9.45am. From there, the route travelled up part of Coniscliffe Road before participants made a u-turn back to the town centre, turning left onto Skinnergate and following the route to High Row where friends and family waited to cheer them on at the finish line.
The 10k Run began at 10.30am for those aged 15 and over. Starting on Houndgate, runners travelled up Coniscliffe Road before taking a right onto Stanhope Road. From there, the route took a left onto Woodlands Road, left onto Carmel Road North then left again back down Coinscliffe Road where participants would turn onto Stanhope Road again to begin lap two!
It was great to see our juniors in action, giving it their all, including one or two new faces. Well done to all who took part. Here’s a few photos of the day’s action…..
