Liam Brittle took a break from cross country last weekend to take part in his first indoor competition. He was up against some of the North’s best athletes in the 1000m, in the first meeting of the Northern Athletics Open series at the English Institute for Sport, Sheffield.
Still only 14 years old, Liam was placed in the Under 17 race, which ran alongside the Under 20’s and seniors. After leading the race from the start, he dropped back with just 75m to go in a sprint for the line, where he finished 3rd overall in 2:54.08

An excellent result, nonetheless, especially against the older competitors…..and a great experience. Well done, Liam! Two of our ‘older’ more experienced juniors were also taking part at the same event. Ryan Stacey (U20) ran in the first heat of the 150m finishing 3rd in a blistering 17.75, and Lucy-Erin Hunter (U20) who won her heat of the 2000m up against senior men and women!
Well done to all, an impressive set of results.
