Hugo Douglas-Reeves was the only junior representing DHAC at a Run, Jump & Throw Competition recently. A sunny Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster was the setting on Sunday 20th September, where Hugo competed in his first ever 800m.
Understandabley, he was a little nervous at the start, but once the gun had fired he soon settled down to produce an excellent performance. He finished 5th out of the U13 boys with a great debut time of 2.37.46 ; an excellent result when you consider he’s still a Year 1 U13 athlete and three of the first five were Year 2 U13’s. This put Hugo in 11th place overall combining all U13 girls and boys.
Hugo being Hugo, he was a little disappointed with his pacing on the day but really enjoyed the experience of racing against some very good Yorkshire athletes. It was a very well organised and friendly meet, and definitely worth the trip! Especially afterwards, when he discovered his performance helped him achieve a UK ranking for the 800m, and he’s currently No. 1 in the North East! Fantastic effort, Hugo, well done!
