Sunday saw the rescheduled Endeavour 5km races, a series of 5 races around the cycle loop (approx 1km) at Middlesborough sports village with runners placed in heats based on expected finishing times. Due to Covid19, events were split even further by having runners run in groups of four, with up to 10 seconds between start points.
Despite some dubious ‘expected finishing times’ in some of the heats and the snow and wind which seemed to increase as the afternoon wore on, the event went very well with runners enjoying actually racing again. Shaun Marshall and Harry Wilson were in Heat 3, Shaun running well to finish in 17:13 for 18th from the 23 ahead of Olympic marathon Runner Aly Dixon with young Harry, still only 16, a very respectable 18:02 for 22nd place.
In Heat 4, from the 27 runners it was Paul Cook first of the three back following up yesterday 3k success in 17.51 for 10th place with Simon Rogers and Barry Talman finishing on exactly the same time in 18:21 for 17th and 18th place.
Heat 5, saw 29 runners compete and it was Peter Armstrong who was first home in 19:22 for 7th, one place and two seconds ahead of 15 year old Dylan Wilson in 19:24. Next home was David McKenna in 11th in 19:49 followed closely by Steven Elliott in 12th in 19:52 and David Tomlinson 14th in 19:54.
